Milestone for JAK Travel
Arrival of the Brand new Vehicle in the yard at Sandbeds 5/5/05
Panther first for J.A.K,
Keighley based J.A.K. Travel have taken their first brand new vehicle, a Plaxton Panther bodied Volvo B12B supplied by Plaxton Coach Sales. “It made sense to go for a new vehicle now and choose the specification that meets our needs” said Alan Bonson who founded J.A.K. with his wife Kath in 1987.
The Panther features 49 blue moquette trimmed Esteban reclining seats with three point belts, continental door and centre demountable toilet. Passenger comfort is assured by air conditioning, tinted double glazing, curtains and individual reading lights. Entertainment comes from a Radio/DVD/CD/PA system with single screen to which a video player has been added locally by Autosound. High visibility red grab rails compliment the wide, shallow stepped entrance making access easier for J.A.K.'s clientele, many of whom are elderly.
The Volvo B12B chassis features a rear mounted Volvo DH12 420bhp engine driving through Volvo’s I-Shift transmission giving excellent fuel consumption combined with easy gear changes. The coach is finished in J.A.K.’s distinctive dark blue livery with vinyls for the prominent fleetname and red and white tick graphics.
Talking about the choice of vehicle and specification, Alan commented “I was impressed when I visited Scarborough before placing the order. The new company is going in the right direction, putting more thought into the build and listening more to what its customers want. We wanted to consider the environment too and had a Webasto heater installed, providing a warm interior to welcome passengers when parked without the engine running. Externally, the split screen we chose reduces the potential cost of replacement and looks well with the gull-wing mirrors”.
J.A.K. Travel now operate four coaches, every one bodied by Plaxton. They are engaged on a variety of work including private hire, school contracts and the company’s own programme of tours and holidays. A packed summer programme awaits the Panther which joins a similarly bodied Volvo B10M and two Premiere Volvos.
